You can fine tune your skirmish forces to perfectly fit the terrain as much as you'd like, but the game allows 200 units on screen at once, and thats exactly how many i'm going to overrun you with as i keep cranking out units and sending them towards your base. This game can be won without ever having seen the enemies base, so long as you know what direction to point your massive replenishing army towards and you can click "build tank drone" faster.

Well this is why I don't like RTS games or really any game that involves building units mid-battle. I prefer to whittle my enemy's force down to size which is impossible if they're rolling off an assembly line. This is why Laser Squad Nemesis is such an evil game because it's the ONLY recent game out that delivers exactly what I want in a strategy game, but I dare not play it casually because I have to pay a monthly fee to play. :(

I woud totally love a tactical combat game with giant robots and 3D terrain.

Also apparently the long-lasting appeal of TA comes from the fact that it is extremely moddable. Last I checked the official fan "Uber-hack" switches around tech trees to make fending off a rush more feasible.
