I don't know why people hate this game. My roommate and I played a fuckton of it (back, in the day), I always thought it looked nice and ran nice.
I liked the resource system (your wizards (factories) have infinite mana, but you must capture mana points or ti will regenrate too slowly to be effective). Roomie was not very good at games and no amount of coaching from me would make him understand why you had to capture lots of MP's early on.
Trebuchets had sick range in this game, and one of the races could spawn seagulls or something to act as spotters. So you'd build a battery of 20 trebs somewhere on the map, and then send the birds out. Sooner or later, they'd fly over something of value and (whoosh x 20) it would be gone. We played one map that was divided all over by fjords or something with a few (insanely well-defended) bridges. It turned into an epic trebuchet war, each of us sending flocks over the other's battery and trying to destroy enough of it that he couldn't regenerate before the second volley. One of us (me) had two extra MPs and, over the course of an hour, eventually ground him to dust. |
