Looking at it, I think I want an army of all Heavy Cav and Heavy Infantry. Which makes sense. An army of Light Cav and Light Infantry should get cut to ribbons by that. So the result is good, even though it means that my Heavy Cav has to run away from the Light Cav and hide behind the pikemen. I'm so confused.

But by that logic, an unsupported army of artillery should destroy your army completely. Yeah, that sounds realistic.
