Why I hate:
Building new units in the middle of the battle: It's a pain in the ass keeping track of it while I'm trying to pull off the greatest tactics in TEH WERLD and it renders all tactics that don't involve crushing the enemy in one fell swoop quaint and unnecessary at best. No "seven samurai" whittling down a superior force through divide and conquer tactics to be seen here.
What would rule:
Mix Total Annihilation with Total War.
I really don't understand people getting their knickers wet over Starcraft's strategies and tactics while never even playing lip-service to TA. TA's units weren't some gay rock-paper-scissors setup to arbitrarily force combined arms, the real time terrain and real time projectiles made using different units for different purposes not only feasable, but necessary in a totally un-arbitrary way. Not to mention the music ruled.
I admit I've never played either total war, but I like the concept of building units, managing resources, putting together unit groupings and formations, and putting together the most kickass base art my leisure in turn based mode between the craziness of battles where I can focus on the only thing that matters: COMBAT.
Plus I like giant robots in games.
Why do all the developers hang out at the gay-ass Qt3 forums discussing politics when they could hear all our kickass ideas here?
Hey, it just occured to me. Let's put up a "Kickass game ideas" forum. If nothing else it'll be fun to tear apart people's stupid-ass ideas for game design. |
