This game won like a billion awards from reviewers. In fact, two-thirds of the box are taken up by all the awards it's won.
What the fuck?
This game is horrible. It would be impressive as an undergrad comp sci major's project (the production values are low enough), but as a published retail game it's horrible.
Pick up to 9 units to form a regiment from one of your cities. The regiments forms outside the city...at least one of the units does. You have to wait until he regenerates to full health at which point the second unit appears. Repeat until all units are there.
Units stick together in one formation. If they come close to an enemy regiment they fight and you lose control of them (except to tell them to run) until one side is eliminated. Think Age of Empires combat only here they don't even give you the illusion that you can control a battle. At least AoE has tons of upgrades and ages and buildings and fortifications you can play simbase with. This game has like five per side.
The only thing resembling strategy is telling your regiments where to go and setting their formation. There are 4 formations, each one determining their movement speed and battle effectiveness, which are inversly proportional to each other. It takes a few seconds to change formations. So don't get caught in forced march mode while your enemy is in battle formation. That about sums up strategy.
Seriously, this game sucks. I paid $3 for it and I still feel ripped off since sitting down and trying to have fun with it was a chore. What the Santorum is with all the awards? This is like that whole Seven Kingdoms thing all over again: a third-rate, garage developed RTS with braindead combat that all the reviewers spooge over because it has supply lines or some shit.
