OK, scripted game interactions that are not dependent on the player's actions. That was cool, and a good way to do something neat without pulling you out of the game to an in-game cinematic... But I really don't think those bits were the best thing about Half Life. Interestingly, I'd forgotten about most of them until you reminded me. The things that are most in my memory are events that I as a player was more involved with. The first time I was attacked by marines or ninja chicks, some of the more tricky tripwire mine traps, the ichthyosaur, the giant beaked boss in the rocket pit, and other stuff like that.

YOU'RE a massive weak point. I think the above is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. "The people who made this game/movie obviously liked that feature, so you can't just say it's BAD."

It's not that you can't say it's bad. In fact, given the general reaction to matrix bloviation, it's safe to say that it actually is bad. But if you are looking at a feature that 95% of people like, it's usually better to say "I don't like it" rather than "This is bad". You don't look like an ass that way.

You also tried to godwin with Citizen Kane, but "some people" who hate it because it's ultimately about a sled (which it clearly isn't) are sub-humans. You might not want to submit them as evidence that you have a point.

Given the amount of critical praise and after-the-fact adulation that SS2 has gotten, the folks here saying that it sucks are coming pretty close to that sub-human benchmark that you've just made.

Nobody complains about the creature AI in Doom 3, except to say that there isn't any. Far Cry had complexity, which paradoxically meant that flaws are easier to see.

I think it's generally known that ambitious projects are more difficult and harder to pull off with total success.

SS2 is not the Citizen Kane of games, but it's somewhere up there.
