I've seen several forum threads around the net that were big Far Cry discussions, people seemed to either love it or hate it.
I liked the game a lot, but still had a couple times playing it that I was really let down. The AI "lock-on" is the thing that annoyed me the most. For example: I am hiding, then pop up to kill a tower guard at long range with a sniper rifle. Now all the mercs in the area are alerted to me. So I jump back over to the other side of a hill and run to a totally different position, with my stealth bar at zero. But the activated guys still know exactly where I am and are moving on a more or less direct line to me.
Another one was once when I wasn't carrying a sniper rifle, I used the rocket launcher to take out a mortar station that was killing me at long range. When the rocket exploded, all the other dudes in the area did the funniest thing: they ran over and stood around looking at the scorch mark. So I dropped another rocket on them and wiped out like 8 guys. It was the sound of the explosion that drew them like flies. The game needed to have two categories of sounds: gun sounds = run toward, explosion sounds = take cover.
I liked Far Cry, but it did have flaws in how the AI and the stealth system interacted. |
