It's probably because a lot of people admire the reach of the game, even if it failed. They really, really, really want SS2 to have succeeded in what it tried, because it's so much more ambitious than your typical FPS. It makes sense- it was an attempt to incorporate two of the biggest gameplay ideas going right now: RPG-like advancement using "skill points" (Shadowrun-style), and the insanely compelling and engaging gameplay that made first person shooters so utterly dominant on the PC platform. Your complaints are valid, but it's easier to forgive someone who tried (and failed) to do something new and spectacular than someone pushing out yet another "me too" title, so they're willing to cut Looking Glass (or whoever developed SS2) a lot of slack.

(It's kind of like my eternal love and admiration for Allegiance. It had a lot of problems, but the core idea was so goddamned compelling that I was willing to excuse each and every flaw.)

There's a reason that they have "sarcasm" tags on SA, FABIO. There are enough insane motherfuckers on the Internet that you can never, ever tell whether someone is serious or not. That's why TruthMedia is able to suck in so many people.
