I was running flat out, chasing a suspect through the kind of run-down Art Deco hotel that only exists in movies. He was skinny and balding and had a little black Evil Spock goatee and was dressed all in black and was carrying a black duffel bag. He looked kinda suspicious. I was wearing brown wingtips and carrying a Colt autoloading pistol, model of 1911.
He crashed through a door into one of the rooms. Just as I was about to follow, he sprayed it with automatic fire. Back flattened against the wall, I counted to three, then lunged through the door. He was gone, but the window was open and the curtains, oh brother you better believe they were billowing. I ran to the window. Seeing him on the street a few stories below, I took aim and emptied my seven-round magazine. I guess I was a lousy shot, because he managed to disappear down an alleyway under a sign advertising "FISH."
That's when I looked around the room. The first thing that caught my attention was an uncomfortable-looking bed, in which two young ladies were attempting to conceal their shamefully ample nakedness behind threadbare sheets. Then a third girl peeked her head out from under the sheets and it was all downhill from there. :( |
