Since I have no idea what Tenchu 1 was like, I am not qualified to make a comparison.
I classified it as Metal Gear Solid minus good controls, any need for stealth, acceptable AI, good graphics, difficulty, good story, and non-atrocious voice acting. Plus shitty camera angles.
Okay, then Tenchu:WoH is definitely not anywhere close to Tenchu 1.
- I think the controls are easily as good as, well, MGS2 (I never played the original).
- Need for stealth is iffy.
- Acceptable AI is... well, the jury's still out on that, since I have yet to play it on hard.
- Graphics are very good.
- Difficulty is... yeah, see AI.
- Voice acting is just fine, although not quite on MGS2's level.
- On the flip side of that coin, you aren't treated to stupid bullshit conversation over the radio after stupid bullshit conversation over the radio. Plus all the other sound and the music is great.
- Camera angles are... uh, if by that you mean that Tenchu 1's camera is at all similar to MGS2 or Devil May Cry (fixed positions, and it switches as you move from one part of a room to another), then the camera control is *totally* different because it's much, much more like Hitman 2. Just about identical, in fact... by default the camera is behind your character (a la Tomb Raider), but you use the right analog stick to rotate it. If you're against a wall, press R1 to flatten against it, then use the right stick if you want to look to your left or right. If you're flat against a wall and you creep your way to the very edge, the camera will shift a bit to let you effectively peek around the corner without your character actually doing so, which is very useful.
- Multiplayer 'duel' mode is a pointless diversion. It'd be like two-player dueling in Dynasty Warriors - who'll be the first to, uh, I guess let go of the block button and stupidly attack only to be countered?
So it's like a Killer Instinct mini-game?
Yes. I just remembered - the computer will toss in the occasional scrub that might help keep things interesting since you and your opponent will have to worry about being attacked by more than one person (the only time, thus far, that combat's proved *really* tough). I still don't think it's something you'll play a great deal, especially since co-op is so much cooler. |
