Honestly though, I've read/heard about too many experiences with alien abductions for not one of them to be true.

Hundreds of thousands have seen statues of the Virgin Mary weeping oil. Do you believe this to be true as well?
It seems like a possibility, I suppose: there could be aliens who feel that we are important enough to observe...yet scary enough to not want to make much contact. Somehow it seems a tad egotistical to 1. want to be the person who is cool and spots the UFO!, 2. believe that we are watched closely by an alien species because we are just that special. I suppose there could be secret power plants in third world countries full of bipeds with knees that bend backwards, but I'm going to tuck that into the "unlikely" folder along with God and winning the lottery.

Oh shit, I realize too late that you are just craving the anal probe.
Anal probe aside, the UFO abduction stories tend to be on a more individual basis. Weeping Virgin Mary can be faked much more easily and is often observed by fanatical crowds. When I was a small kid taking a vacation near some mountains in Bulgaria, I thought I saw a UFO. I don't know what it was. To my seven year old eyes it was some hovering object with cliche yellow and red lights. It might have been nothing. Furthermore, I do agree that it is egotistical to think we are being watched, but if what else could they do? It's all that scientists do. Watch shit.
Do you honestly think that there is no advanced enough species out there in the universe that can swing down to earth for some fun with a farmer's asshole?
the mrs.
Sure, I'm sure there's intelligent life out there. I just don't buy that they would spend decades merely hovering over us, and occasionally probing anuses. I mean, put yourself in that position: you've spent trillions of dollars for research and development of a craft, you find another planet with intelligent life on it...and then you HOVER for 50+ of their years?? And not from a far-away, "they can't see us" position, but repeatedly visible to surface residents?? I suppose I can put the foil hat on and say that the government has already contacted "them" without telling us, but now I'm just writing a sci-fi conspiracy novel.
You don't have to be fanatical to believe you are seeing something alien. If the mind can't explain something right away, the mind starts to make guesses. What's the first thing that's going to spring to mind when you see a weird object in the sky? I know my mind would probably think: "UFO!! No wait, it must be a plane or something," followed by me staring intently at the thing for several long minutes. It's egotistical of me to think that I know every object that is in the sky and can identify them all from several miles away. Rationally, all I can do is shrug and say "I don't know." But until I see the little green men (and if I did, I would pop several extra of the anti-psychotics I take), I'm only going to believe that intelligent alien life is a likely possibility.

Btw, my hometown in New Hampshire has been labeled a UFO Zone. Never saw any UFOs growing up there, however. |
