I dunno. MM, KThor and FABs are pretty hardcore, and they all liked BG&E (which was I bought it); maybe they ought to chime in here.
BG&E was great for the reasons BDR and MM stated here. I'd also say that, contrary to the popular opinion of one person, that GoW is easier than BG&E. In GoW normal mode it's nearly impossible to die in regular combat unless you have to make a conscious effort to do so; the only times I've ever died were from jump puzzles and the first time I learned that one hit kills when you're medusa stoned. My non-h4rdkOr3 friend also blazed through it by what even he admitted was just mashing the attack buttons. BG&E wasn't difficult, but you did screw up occasionally and had to redo certain parts.
This was the opposite of my experience. I blazed through BG&E without ever having to anything more than once (maybe the pod races?), but some of the later fights in GoW are tough. Also, if you're not too familiar with Parappa the Rappa and don't know which button is which, the guys that you have to kill using rhythm games take forever. I realize that's me being a shitty player, but being a shitty player didn't stop me from breezing through BG&E and Ratchet & Clank.
ANYWAYS: the point isn't whether any of these games are too easy or just hard enough or whatever. The point is that if a game has a lot to recommend it, who cares if it's a little easy? Why is the easiness such a big problem for people (esp. since Hard mode is available and is hard enough for almost anyone)? GoW is gorgeous with great sound, it's got amusingly sadistic kills, a nice portion of naked bitches, and the fighting is fun. I give it an A. Why does it need an asterisk of ("it's too easy on Normal") from everyone?
If there's anything to bitch about, it's the poor distribution of tasks throughout the game. The fact that you spend 65% of your time in Pandora's Temple seems like too much to me. They should have had less of that and more variety in Hades (which I mentioned elsewhere). But even with that the game was more fun than almost all my other PS2 games. |
