HARDCORE!!! Rrrrrragh! I R 133+!!!!!!1!!! by Mischief Maker 03/31/2005, 8:29pm PST
I dunno, over the top action games are my 2nd favortie genre (after the long deadt Space Sim genre) and the only HARDCORE problem I had with the game is that it only starts you out with, like, 2 combos and slowly dribbles them out to you over the course of the game. (Only noticed this the 2nd time through.) If the forgiving health bar is your beef, just increase the difficulty. Other than not taking off 1/8th of your health per hit I don't see how any of the enemies are weaker than their equivalent in any other OTTAG.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Unless you're really, really masochistic, the silly unlockable costumes you get for clearing the challenge of the gods are not worth it. #10 is nearly impossible because you're fighting on a very tiny platform with no ledges and fighting two satyrs which send you flying backwards when you block their hits. The costumes are essentially silly things like Kratos in a business suit with briefcases for weapons! Or Kratos in a cow costume with Milk Cartons for weapons! Har! Each comes with a cheat like unlimited magic or 10x experience or practically nil damage and you can't use any of them in God mode.

The genius behind BG&E, besides its beautiful production values, interesting plot, lovable characters, great music, and general feeling of being a project someone put a great deal of love and care into (it was the dream project for the chief dude behind Rayman 2,) is that it took a variety of game genres and distilled all the annoyances out of them to just give you the fun. This INCLUDED (INC take note) jump puzzles without instadeaths... Who cares if it was short and easy if the experience was pure pleasure and no frustration? In fact, just typing about the game makes me want to play it again. Did the PS2 version suffer from any serious load times or framerate drops?

No, the real problem for GOW was that they dropped a few kickass bosses in the works (This game has way too few of them) so they could spend more time tuning THEIR FUCKING PLANK WALKING, ESPECIALLY THE PARTS WHERE YOU"RE PLANK WALKING ACROSS ROTATING LOGS WITH BLADES STICKING OUT WHILE ARCHERS SNIPE AT YOU AND YOU CAN'T ATTACK OR RIP THEIR SPINES OUT OR DO ANYTHING EXCEPT CREEP FORWARD AT A SLOW METHODICAL PACE AND PRAY THAT THE ARCHERS RANDOMLY MISS.
