Neither of us is arguing that normal mode isn't a cakewalk as far as OTTAGs go. In fact we're actively agreeing that thanks to its forgiving health bar everyone, even your non-HARDCORE!!! friend can play, enjoy, and beat it.
Try this: get all the blue orbs in DMC3 then have your friend play it on easy mode from the start. He just might be able to button mash through the first 2/3rds with little frustration. Now you turn on Spartan or God mode and then tell me GOW is still just a silly little button-mashing cakewalk.
The point is that it shouldn't be a mark off that GOW is accesable for the regular folks instead of automatically responding to anyone who tries to play it by kicking them in the balls and roaring, "YOU ARE NOT WORTHY OF MY GREATNESS!!!" like Ninja Gaiden and DMC3. DMC3 has a more varied and complex combat system with tons of customizability and hidden layers of sophistication when you start working for the best combo ratings possible, but only OTTAG dorks like you and me give a shit about that stuff.
And that's exactly why I recommended GOW over DMC3. You get fantastic production values that makes the game fun just to watch, vicerally satisfying combat that's only as complex as you want it to be, and most importantly, a minimal frustration to accomplishment ratio. To the average player, all DMC3 has to offer is graphics that are good for the PS2, cutscenes that subtley satirize action games/movies whose humor might go over some people's heads, and difficulty that can make beating the game feel more like work than fun. |
