Thanks for the custom review, although I rented it without hesitation the moment I got back from vacation. We're having a blast with it despite it too easy on Normal, so I'm going to buy it soon. This is the first game in a long time where I beat it in one prolonged session aside from breaks for meals or the occasional TV show - I tore through this thing because the fun so greatly outweighed the boring parts.
It does get tougher on the unlockable difficulty, almost in a frustating way, because you actually take damage from attacks and so forth. I'm not sure it's as tough as DMC3 (which I have yet to even win on Normal) but it's much more brutal than Easy or Normal. I never tried Hard.
I do wonder whether SCEA had two separate teams making it. Team One focused solely on making everything as awesome as possible. They're the ones who came up with, say, the hydra boss fight. Team Two thought crates and moving around real slowly in an action game are selling points. They're the ones who make you slow to a crawl when on top of narrow beams. |
