As someone who saw Tomb Raider long ago, said "3rd person POV sucks" and never turned back. I bought GoW mainly on Caltrops reccomendation (and loved it!). I found the game perhaps slightly easy: My life never dropped below %80 until I hit a "hard" bit, then I died 3-5 times while learning how to actually play and not mash buttons. Then I'd pick up some techniques and move forward. So for someone with unknown ability and no experience at 3rd person or beat 'em ups, Normal mode was Just Right until...
That fucking Cerbereus battle. I must have played that 20 times, and eventually only beat it because I accidentally told the game to shift to easy mode (after the 3rd or so time it asked). Looking back I forgot I had the RAGE GAUGE to fuck shit up. Looking forward holy fuck am I glad I saw Hades (which at least really should have been named Tartarus) on easy. Please post the home addresses of the Hades level designers so I can personally... congratulate them on builiding such interesting, unique, and balanced levels.
Summary: GoW 2 needs more ass kicking, more awesome bosses, little to no platforming, and less time-based puzzles.

This is a weird post, because there were a lot of battles that were harder than the (1st?) Cerberus battle, and I don't remember even fighting anyone in Hades, just a bunch of archers that I had to jump puzzle toward and then kill. The only hard thing about Hades was the Xtreme Tree Climbing, which presumably is the same difficulty on all settings.
The only really frustrating part of the game for me was: there's a jump puzzle where the floor slides away and you fall into lava, and no matter what I did I couldn't make that jump. I eventually made it by switching to the sword mid-jump, which luckily gives you the ability to walk on lava. |
