It's fucked in the US. Pay them like they do in rugby: a small short-term base salary that reflects a player's relative worth, with the bulk of a player's money coming from win bonuses and revenue sharing. If you pay the athletes US style, they become so comfortable that you have to wait around for a self-motivated Michael Jordan type to kick ass just for the sake of it. Pay them so their house is on the line every game and watch how many Jordans emerge.
And in the rest of the world the worst team in a sport gets knocked out of the league and sent to the faggots' division until it gets its shit together. This system keeps teams like the Clippers from free-riding on the gate sales of successful visiting teams. Not only do you not do this in the US, but you reward teams for sucking by giving them a better a chance at a top draft pick! How well is that working for you?! How quickly would the Clippers and their players get their shit together if the consequence of being so shitty was getting knocked down to the NBDL? |
