So wait, what's the difference between going into a Soulseek chat room and requesting an album, and going into a oink.me.uk message board and posting a message requesting an album? Congratulations Bittorrent world, crazy Zseni loves to post torrents for you, so that makes you better.
I guess the main difference is that oink.co.uk isn't the only BT music site on the planet. Oh yeah, and you use BitTorrent instead of a p2p, which replaces the agony and uncertainty of queues with the agony and uncertainty of waiting for seeders. Whether this is good or bad depends on who you are. At ThePPN there is a DVD worth of Ayumi Hamasaki mp3s in a set of 7 torrents that are over a year old now. I downloaded the complete set; it took me a little over a day. Such popular torrents on a stable server do have a clear advantage over slsk: always seeded, always available, no queues, no digging around. Here are some more ways that BT is better:
Torrents are attached to websites, and are frequently covered by ratings and reviews and discussion areas.
Your choice of clients, with a variety of features and resource requirements, including (on Azareus) slsk-style chat
Superior propagation of data, the feature that BT was designed around
Doesn't punish you for having large collection of files to potentially share
Fans of BT less rabid, insecure than fans of slsk
But I don't get this thing where BitTorrent is somehow inferior because it requires that people contribute new material to it. WTF? Does the hugeness and coldness of slsk-space make you idiots think all that music comes directly from the aethyr or some fairy catalog or whatever?
Also, you're completely incompetent at Soulseek. I just put in "sam dave" as a search term and got back at least 200 results, including three instances of "the best of Sam and Dave" and a stax/volt collection of Sam & Dave singles.
Incompetent? That's harsh. But completely incompetent? That's just hyperbole, straight up.
I won't disagree with you that BT is a much faster and solid way to get, well, anything, but come on. Take your quixotic P2P jihad somewhere else.
What p2p jihad, hombre? I was pimping an anime p2p that worked just like slsk years ago, except it was better. |
