This fucking sucks. I remember when this was called WinMX, except you could download stuff there. And you had a shot at getting those fucking Bee Gees albums you were looking for.
Back when I lived in St. Louis there was a cool-ass record store specializing in electronic music. It was so fucking cool that most of the time the owner and employees wouldn't even show up until two or three hours past the posted store hours, and then they would sell me CDs and records with open, naked, derogatory smugness. Soulseek is just like being back there. It's the full experience, right down to looking at the album covers and wishing I had enough money to buy stuff, then finally bundling up the scratch, heading in, having to wait for the owner to actually show up and open the place, then discover that due to his arcane theft-prevention filing system the album I've waited all week to purchase is in fact not in its sleeve nor anywhere else in the store.
Just down the street from that froody joint was Vintage Vinyl, one of America's best record stores and one of the few redeeming features St. Louis has. I went to VV all the time and bought stuff right off the shelves like crazy. Sometimes just because I liked the album art! So BitTorrent is the Vintage Vinyl to Soulseek's pretentious electronica shanty: better in every conceivable way. |
