Actually, I guess there is one way we can test that. The steering on your right-side wheel is good, right? There should be wires going from the harness to the wheel. The harness looks like this:
If you remove the connectors from your good steering wheel, and place them on your left steering wheel, is that wheel still broken?
I would have to perform that experiment with the buttons instead, since I don't even know if the left steering works as I can't initiate a game on that side. But this is a good idea, and I'll try it out one day. I've removed and swapped wires from a harness exactly zero times, so I expect it to be an all-day event.
I'd be shocked if it's a poor connection of any sort, as the cabinet has sat here working for years, in a climate controlled environment, jostled infinitely less than the average computer. And I already did the plug/unplug + jiggle on every harness I could see.
But regarding the EEPROM chips - if they are socketed, that's good, because we can burn new ones and easily replace them. If they are soldered straight to the board, that's a huge pain in the ass, and we may want to send the board to someone who can burn new EEPROMs and resolder them. Does the self-test give you specific info on what EEPROM went bad?
No specifics, no. I I suspect I'll just keep my eye out for a Badlands PCB from now on. Or buy a Sprint PCB in the meantime. The place near me has an auction on the 31st. |

I haven't replied yet because I'm overwhelmed and depressed. But thanks! by Fussbett 05/23/2008, 12:54pm PDT
Nevermind about Sprint. The sprints weren't JAMMA. :( NT by Fussbett 05/23/2008, 1:29pm PDT
