The Fatal Frame sequels were pretty lackluster. 2's combat was pathetically easy and boring; the only thing worthwhile in the game are the cutscenes with the main villain. 3 tried to copy Silent Hill 4's room mechanic, but failed because nothing interesting ever happened in those parts.
Silent Hill 3....is a mixed bag. It has a lot better random little scare moments than 2, but the story is so fucking awful it feels like you're just slogging through to get to the next scare moment. The combat is exponentially harder than past game and I recommend just playing on easy. Some of the puzzles in hard puzzle mode are impossible without a FAQ.
The first half of Silent Hill 4 was promising, but it completely craps out at the halfway point.
Do you play these games with your wife? You might want to try Obscure. It's The Faculty meets Maniac Mansion. Group of teens, each one with different abilities, explore their monster infested school. Co-op mode allows two players at once.
I'd check out The Suffering. Very fun, tense, underrated horror game. The highlights might not be as good as Silent Hill's highlights, but where Silent Hill tends to have stretches that drag, Suffering maintains its momentum throughout the whole game.
You may like Killer 7. Some people throw their controller over the lightgun gameplay, but if you can enjoy Silent Hill or any other survival horror game then you can make it through Killer 7's gameplay. Probably the best fucked up game plot out there: a David Lynchian take on U.S./Japanese relations.
