Kingdom Hearts 2 is better than 1 in every possible way. That's only a ringing endorsement if you liked one, but there you have it. I liked it, and it was my wife's first "real" game that she beat on her own fwiw. The mechanics are better in every way.
I assume you already played Killer 7, but it's still one of my favorites. I picked it out of the bargain bin that is Kmart, and I wish I'd gotten it at release, like people with sense told me to do.
Other than that, the biggest PS2 time sink for me this year has been Persona 3. JRPG's may not be your thing, I don't know. It's the usual Shin Megami demon pokemon routine, done far more smoothly than the previous one. Most of the annoying shit has been taken out, and the high school dating simulator aspect is tragically addictive. I shouldn't even be able to look at this game without laughing at it, but it has some of the best production values of any game in that generation, and arguably over many in the current one. Mass Effect will probably push over it because I am a sucker for sci fi, but Persona made a lot of things that I shouldn't be able to stand for a minute incredibly engaging. No random encounters takes out nine tenths of the frustration in dungeon crawls, but they cleverly gear the system to still keep up that level of tension that is necessary without ganking the player over bullshit. And I still dig turn based games, so fuck it.
Odin Sphere was really boring despite my loyalty to the brand, and Soul Nomad remains shrinkwrapped in a drawer like I got it on release day. I don't know if that counts as a review, but it might be.
