I once spent a lot of money to see the sun rise in a desert in Rajasthan. In addition to taking photos of the sun rise, I also wanted to listen to a song so I could soak the important and costly moment into as many media as possible and remember the fuck out of it when I returned home to my "dull and boring" life.

I totally underestimated the difficulty in finding a song that would be unaffected with irony by Zseni's good standards and ended up missing the first few inches of sun rise! I settled for some J J Cale track that I'd hardly heard before, but by the time it got to the chourus, the sun was too bright to look at! I remember thinking later that this incident was way too many valuable life lessons rolled into one and I've never completely made sense of it since.

On the dune next to me were pajama-pant wearing Americans who took in the moment naturally and looked at me like I was the devil. Normally, the money I spent on my Sony 7506's gives me the confidence to shrug off those sort of looks, but right then I was stung!

Also interesting, you can't listen to electronic music in the ugly parts third world countries! It's impossible. it sounds like circus music. My definition of jarring is wiping your ass with Tea bags and then listening to Royksopp.
