True, MK is primarily about those combos, and... um... that makes it far easier than any other recent fighter I can think of. There's nothing else to you'll need to know in order to hold your own against anybody.
Soul Calibur 2 requires that you memorize equally difficult combos AND also develop a great sense of timing for the reversals. That alone makes it much tougher.
Guilty Gear X2's combos put MK's to shame in terms of how hard they are to memorize, when you factor in how the cancel system works. Much more difficult to master.
Virtua Fighter 4 de-emphasizes memorizing long combos, but you have to have an intimate knowledge of your characters moves, recognizing when you've got your opponent at a certain disadvantage then knowing which moves to use to capitalize on the opportunity. On top of that you still need great timing, not only for the characters that have reversals, but in order to execute most juggling combos, since just inputting a string of commands will likely wind up in your character whiffing on their moves since they have to strike the enemy at the right height... It's so much tougher to master that it's nearly impossible to compare it to MK:D.
The last King Of Fighters games I've played were a great deal like GGX2. That is, much tougher to master than MK:D.
Street Fighter 3:Third Strike is almost as tough in terms of learning combos as GGX2, plus it includes a parrying system a la SC2 or VF4. Again, much harder to master.
Basically, the gap between "noobs" and "l33ts" is much larger in the other games than it is in MK. The only exception I can think of is if you memorize any of the 95% damage/infinite comboes that apparently can be found right and left in MK:D - I imagine that'd give you a remarkable advantage. Otherwise, all someone has to do is spend a little time learning the combos that are provided right there in the pause menu at all times, and they're good to go.
I'll give you this much, Smash Bros. is probably much easier. But that's it. |
