Well, If You're Not Going To Do It, I Will. by Rightbug 07/23/2004, 12:18pm PDT Saw it last night. Here's the review I wrote on another board... Surprisingly, it not only did not suck, but it was better and smarter than your average summer action movie. Which isn't to say that it's high art or a thinking man's movie but, if you're able to suspend your disbelief, it's an extremely entertaining sci-fi flick. The special effects are good and even though it seems to turn Isaac Asimov's basic premise (Robots are not Frankenstein's Monster, they exist to serve us) on it's head, it actually sort of doesn't. Or rather, it does and it doesn't and, even when it does, it acknowledges exactly what it's doing. While the previews seem to give the whole story away, they actually don't. The plot twists were all fairly predictable and I found myself mentally calling the next scene or line repeatedly but, somehow this didn't annoy me, probably because in each instance the writers did exactly what I would have done had I been writing the movie. (Which would sem to imply that, if I ever become a Hollywood screenwriter, I'll churn out predictable, half-baked, pseudo-intellectual action movies.) Anyway, the effects are excellent and the over-all coolness factor is high. I recommend it. -- Rb
