i met weezer twice, once touring for pinkerton and once promoting the green album, and i could even sense the difference in rivers before i heard the green album, when i met him the first time he was polite and we hung out and chatted for about an hour or so with matt, pat and nerf herder. the second time he couldn't be bothered to get off his cell phone to say hi.
anway, my theory is this, in july of 97 mykel and carli allen died, anyone that knows weezer well knows who they were, (they gave me the passes to get back stage in 97, wonderful girls) my friends and i were worried that them dying could forever effect the music. we thought maybe it would be a very depressing third album, or they would just break up. but i think rivers is very empty these days, perhaps because he doesn't see his own legacy, perhaps it was mykel and carli dying, perhaps it's the weed he can't stop writing about, it seems thats all he has to do anyway. i agree with most the opinions given here, and i share a long lost love with weezer, blue and pinkerton are probably 2 of my top 5 favorite albums, but i couldn't name any non singles since the green album, it's just crap now. kind of like the star wars prequels actually. |
