He scored 34/40 on his first test, second best in the unit. Marksman wasn't the right designation, I re-read his letter and he says it was sharpshooter, so I'm the one who got it wrong. and judging from this conversation, it is perfectly correct - getting 36 out of 40 targets during qualification (Expert sharpshooter) entitles one to attend sniper school.
