They had one of those frames that you rest your head in, like the eye doc uses. There was a camera pointing at my eyeballs, so she could make sure that I was looking in the right place. I was staring at a largish (20" or so) monitor hooked into one of those weird-looking G4 Apples, and had no less that three seperate video adapters used to hook it into the video card. (By adapter, I mean like a VGA-to-DVI adapter, not a video card.) The weight of the adapters was bending the connector pretty far down, I would suspect that it'd be easy for it to break the card. The monitor looked like a standard VGA monitor, surely there are easier ways to hook it into the computer.

Anyways, the test was a black dot that you had to stare at, on a light green background. Every few seconds, a circle made up of either vertical or horizontal lines would appear on the other side of the screen. The lines were also green, so they were difficult to see even when looking directly at them. I had to, without moving my eyes, identify them as either horizontal or vertical.

The idea of testing your peripheral vision, specifically (I assume) if people who have played years of videogames have improved peripheral vision over people who just about their normal lives without playing videogames. Apparently I did very well, so maybe there's something to it.
