Heehee, flippin' the board. Man, I forgot all about that. There's something odd and depressing about that, the notion that you can never EVER really finish a game of Frogger. A Frogger game is potentially inifinite. That's fucked up.

Kind of, but a new version of more or less the same game, with kooky iso graphics and a BIG ASS inventory screen and stuff would still RAWK. There have been far, far stupider goals in an RPG than become an avatar and all that encompassed. I loved U4, or whatever the cool kids call it. I remember trying to kill Lord British - I knew I couldn't, but what the hell. I took the Skull of Mondain, the one you use to wipe out the isle of daemons (I can't believe only U4 was ed-gay enough to use that spelling for demon), and broke it on Lord B's ass. Double Dragon (8-bit NES) - beating it. But no one was around, and no one believes me. Nowadays I've been disbelieved so long that I am doubting my own memories. But I beat that shit. St. Peter will know.

To tie two of your points together, Double Dragon was the first arcade game I ever beat - in high school, 20 bucks or so later.

Yeah, no game will ever do it for us like Doom did. To use FABIO's analogy, Doom's the hot redhead you met in college, who slept with you right away, did everything and anything, loved you and your cock, you couldn't believe you were fucking her (and neither did anyon else until they met her), and basically made you believe anything was possible in the world.
