I am sure that the owner of that mysterious website, who I will not name, would LIKE to say these sorts of things about Xenosaga, but his or her manners will not let them.

That's entirely possible; however, I find a value in such manners, self-censorship though that may be.

In a perfect world, yes, I would be robbing them of that chance. Unfortunately, it'll probably only want to make more people play the game to see if it really is that bad (helpful fun hint: it is).

Well, if they find enjoyment in picking it apart like that, then more power to them. And to you, for that matter. (In an ideal world, though, Xenosaga wouldn't suck. Or it wouldn't exist. Whatever.) Personally, I don't think such a cynical attitude really makes you enjoy games more, and that's basically what I'm trying to get across. You wanted feedback? Here it is.

I would like to point out, in case my review didn't make it clear, that Xenosaga actually IS poisonous.

And I am arguing, conversely, that it's your attitude that's poisonous. Part of the game's experience is the context you bring to the game--when you're primed to look for the mistakes, the poor writing and design choices, you're going to come out with a much lower opinion of the overall experience.

"Judging by my senses and perception skills, which are advanced light years beyond any fan of Xenogears or Xenosaga,..." This is exactly what I'm talking about.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, maybe not.

Well ES, Fusbet, Bill Clownshoes, SB, other friends, this obviously means you, since Caltrops isn't mine in any sense. You guys obviously fucked something up really really bad for this guy to get so politely unhappy with you.

I should probably include Zseni. Nice job, people. You FUCKED it up to begin with, now just fucking SIT THERE, like a dumb bell and feel the shame.

I guess it's important to give credit where it is due. And as far as being "politely unhappy" is concerned--you can't please everyone. That's a given, right? Well, I'm just making it known where the unpleased portion of the audience lies, and hopefully expressing some reasonable complaints. Isn't that the point of feedback?

On the contrary my fine sir, I could also be implying that they should be vaporized either way!

Alright, I won't argue with that.

Gameplay...? I didn't notice any gameplay. I noticed some corridor wandering and occasional button presses.

Maybe I would've played throughout all 600+ hours of objectively brilliant art if I weren't such an uncultured gaijin I suppose. I'm too much of a non-Japanese type carbon unit to appreciate the brilliant brilliance of Xenosaga.

My point isn't that Xenosaga is only a good game to someone who understands Japanese culture--on the contrary, all that I know of Japanese culture is the product of hearsay. My point was rather that the frequent moralizing and philosophizing in the game didn't seem to me to be a specific commentary on wartime relations between Japan and the United States which your review seemed to suggest they were.

B-blanket statements!?!?! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOMEONE SHUT DOWN THE INTERNET, NOW! WE NEED TO GET RID OF PEOPLE MAKING GENERALIZATIONS ABOUT EACH OTHER PLZ OH GOD I CAN'T SEE I AM CRYING TOO HARD BUMPING INTO WALLS AND BIG GAY DICKS

Are blanket statements and rampant generalizations a problem on the Internet? Many people seem to think so. Do more blanket statements coupled with sarcasm do anything to stop them? I don't really think so.

Anyway I made my observation about Xenosaga/gears fans by observing them. About roughly 100% (or more) met the description I have given them. Maybe if there were less people like that who liked Xenogears, I wouldn't have said such things.

Well, on this I'll agree with you. Fanatical behavior in support of a game or series DOES strike me as ridiculous. In fact, I feel exactly the same way about fanatical behavior in opposition of a game or series.

You are right, I forgot that part. Gomen!

The part that they got right was the saving being very nice and quick, and the saving screen being very easily laid out. It looked almost identical to the one in FFX. The battle system, however, was muddled until it looked like a big mess, there was actually a motherfucking slot machine in it. Someone needs to be executed for that one.

Thanks for the clarification. I hardly think FFX was the first game to have a successful saving system, but that is one thing they share in common. And while I disagree with your assessment of the battle system, I much prefer your presentation of it--if your entire review had consisted of straightforward opinions like this one, I would not have been prompted to complain. (That's not to say I don't enjoy this discussion; again, I simply would have preferred something more designed to warn gamers away rather than to actually inspire hatred. But perhaps I am naive.)

Well, explaining it further: FFX is better. You're welcome.

I never said it wasn't!

That is a start, but if Xenosaga fans didn't take everything so seriously, they wouldn't be Xenosaga fans now would they?

Heh. Point taken.

It sounds like you've let the saga take you. RIGHT UP THE ASS YOU FUCKIN COCKSUCKER

PS: So I assume you enjoyed MOMO's panties.

In truth, the whole panties thing never really occurred to me. It did seem a bit odd that all the females are wearing skirts, but I chalked that up to the quirks of the character designer. Pandering has become so common in games lately that it no longer seems particularly odd.

Abundantly obsequious,

Jason Love
