So, in the 1990s I operated a dial-up BBS in DOS. It used Maximus software. Everything in dial-up was local, of course. I went off to college but tried to leave the BBS up for my Rochester, NY friends. Unfortunately, towards the end the BBS would not come back from a call successfully. So even though I had the thing 99% functional while I was away, it would go days at a time hung. (I'd call my parents up and ask them to reboot the machine.)
I saved a copy of the BBS and would love to put that up some place. Using DOSbox, would a linode machine allow people to telnet in? I can't use my home computer because I drop my internet connection constantly and get a new IP all the time.
That would seem to be a perfect application of a server like this for me. (But the things that you guys said also sounds great. I would love a central location to store the SVN repositories of the source code to my games and such.
And if I wanted one of these VMs to access a directory on my home computer, so it could let me access music from anywhere, could that work too?
