I know this is a neverending bone of contention between us, but you can't min/max with 3D ships and polygonal impacts the way you can with mathematical abstract ships (like in Gratuitous Space battles, Starcraft, and probably Armada 2526). Point defense turrets have blind spots, mass weapons can break up synergistic formations, damageless tractor beams can slam a ship into an asteroid, etc. Searching over the internet, I can't find any "best" ships/combinations, just an interview when the AMOC expansion came out where a developer was boasting that after 2 years of competitive play, people still hadn't found an optimum tactical strategy, just holes in the strategic portion of the game.
You'd rather play Eisenhower, I'd rather play Patton. |
