The game advances on calender days, and every night you have the option of going to the dungeon to grind. Once a month there is a mandatory story segment/boss battle. If you discover you are too under level for the boss, you must go back to an earlier save and grind more. Getting killed by story bosses literally sets you back by 45 minutes of unskippable cutscenes where characters take 10 pages to describe the obvious. I started burning super rare items on bosses simply so I wouldn't have to sit through all the dialog again.
The last boss is 10x more difficult than the previous boss, requires a similar ratio of grinding to prepare for, and requires you to go through 20 minutes of throwaway fights (in addition to 20 more minutes of beating his ass till he changes to his ultimate form) for each attempt. |
