Who said they didn't? All the black (romulan) population was probably trying to wait it out on rooftop lawn chairs. And maybe it supernova'd faster than anticipated. Anyways, they got through all this in less than 45 seconds, why are you making it so hard. They found out there was a supernova today and Spock just happen to be putting around in his motorboat spaceship, there, ridiculous sci/fi plot now explained i guess we can enjoy ourselves now =(

They actually explained this! They had to wait on the otherside of the unstable wormhole until Spock popped out, then they could start all the revenge. I guess you were pretty busy furiously writing out all your notes
