My experience was similar to Jerry's, it featured little packets of schoolwork called "PACEs" that were filled with rote memorization. Literally, for "social studies" you would memorize a phrase like "Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States" and then write that exact sentence several times during the course of the PACE. They were incredibly retarded, as expected of any Christian education system, with such gems of wisdom as Nelson Mandela actually was a Communist conspirator, apartheid was a pretty good system for South Africa, and the UN rolled in the floor laughing with relief when Communist China was recognized over Taiwan. The young-earth intelligent design bullshit was there of course, which everybody already knows about.
The PACEs also featured hilarious comics of perfect high school children who never disobeyed their parents and always cited the Bible in response to problems such as laziness, rebellion, rock music or worldly movies. There was one nefarious kid named "Ronny" who dressed like a 50's greaser, rode a motorcycle, had a girlfriend (which he POSSIBLY had sex with!) and told all the kids their system was bullshit, but was always proven wrong in the end.
The classes featured no discussion, interaction, writing, significant reading, or independent thought of any sort. Needless to say I was ill-prepared when I got to college and since ACE was so easy and I was always the best, I gave up almost immediately. Needless to say I was a social fuckup, too. I'm pretty sure that applies to all people who are homeschooled / unschooled. =( |
