I think the most popular way to deal with Carlito early on is to make sure you grab the katana off the awning near where you start (you get to it from that cafe on the second floor with all of the orange juice), then chase after him and beat the everloving shit out of him. Also key: learn how to use books once you have enough slots to accommodate them. They will give your melee weapons the lifespan they deserve, especially if you "stack" book effects (up to 3, you'll see a little purple symbol in the corner of the weapon icon for each life extension). The book gamefaq and the zombie genocider gamefaq were both key for me, but Fussbett was just telling me the other day how grinding pieces of shit like me ruin games. I really can't imagine playing the game without reading the text, I don't know how you deal with that.
