I've found that every moment where Nero seems badass I just think "Dante would make these guys look like punks in half the time" and it hasn't become clear to me yet why I'm forced to play as Nero rather than be Dante and just pick up the demon grapple hook arm as an item early on.

Best example: Nero fights a huge toad demon and then sees a group of them coming at him through a portal, so he closes the portal. I can't help but think Dante would have leapt in there and smashed the crap out of them in no time and then made out with some babes and played some guitar (possibly at the same time)

Also Nero's combos are pretty lame and everything about Dante is flashier and more WOAAAAAAAH. The only reason to play as Nero is to see his various special grapples, especially versus the bosses (leaping into the aforementioned Toad's mouth, smashing some crap and then bursting out through it's back as example when he grabs it from the front)

Also most of Nero's unlockable skills and abilities are worthless 99% of the time, but when they are useful, they are indispensable and will save your life/kill more dudes/be more Slick Smokin' Stylin'! At least you can unpurchase skills for a full refund at any upgrade point.
