In the newest issue of CGW, Robert Coffey uses his end-page editorial (which used to be written far better by Jeff Green) "Scorched Earth" (a title that refers to, I don't know, something sort of computer gamey. I guess "Esc Key" was taken?) to badmouth everyone who, unlike Darren "Doom 3 Actually Gave Me a Blowjob While I Played It! Seriously!" Gladstone, didn't find Doom 3 TOTALLY AWESOME 4-EVAZ. Because, as Coffey surmises, we're all hataz who don't know how to have fun anymore, because Doom3 was TOTALLY FUN 4-EVA. Coffey also implies that monster closets are part of the fun, SEE WE JUST DIDN'T UNDERSTAND SOB.
You see, Coffey reads Qt3 at least occasionally, and he has read some or all of the Doom 3 threads there, which are about 30/70 For/Against the game. Nobody finds it 5 Star material, much to Coffey's (and, I would guess, Jeff Green and most of CGW's staff) chagrin, thus the article. Also, he's a wimp who has posted maybe 5 times total on Qt3, none of which were in Doom 3 threads. He posted awhile back when his writing was challenged, essentially just to say he's above speaking to internet riff-raff.
Also, the new ish has an interview with the iD guys, who state for the record they were deliberately making a Resident Evil-type survival horror game when they made Doom 3. They just forgot to tell, you know, everyone. |
