I'm trying to imagine the isolation of your early life. Ordinarily talking to people would stop one from washing one's hair in the sink or from harboring irrational fears; someone tells you, That's silly, and before it becomes too big a deal, you're like, Oh yeah, huh? It is. But you had someone to talk to; actually, you had perfect communion with your brother. But since he's your genetic replica, communication with him might have had more the form and effect of further introspection and dialogue with yourself. What happens when you only talk to yourself? There's a parallel in the natural world: "hybrid vigor" is ascribed to individuals that result from mating genetically different parents. One problem with inbreeding is that (bad) recessive genes come out more often, the mechanism behind this is points to why talking to oneself doesn't help you in the same way talking to others does. Everyone has some things that are weird about them which hurt their functioning in society when manifested, but the weird things differ from person to person. Usually, they don't match up, and a person who is strong where another person has the potential to be weak can override the impulse in the weak person. But if people meet up who are weak in the same area, and ONLY those people meet, then that weak impulse is never overridden. That's like what happens with dominant and recessive alleles.
I was thinking isolated twins would be a good literary device to examine the effects of ruminating in excess, which is something I do all the time in place of getting laid or doing work.
