"read" and "write" errors by laudablepuss 05/18/2006, 5:52pm PDT
why you need ECC memory
I was hoping to eliminate or reduce random 'memory could not be "read"' errors from windows, which I always assumed were caused by one-off memory issues.

My impression, strictly from having observed these errors on many many machines, is that this is somehow a software problem. Our Avaya software is particularly crappy. Nearly everyone with Avaya IP agent software gets this error when they shut it down, the Avaya site administrator tool causes that error (also when it's shut down) and our webcode that interacts with the avaya software also causes this error. So make of that what you will.

Why does Microsoft put "read" and "write" in quotes like that, anyway?
