# Case: Why on earth do you need 12 drive bays? Get an Antec P180 - good, quiet case.

For fear of creating a discksize thread, I didn't get into the storage I'm transplanting. 3x 300 RAID5, 4x 250 RAID5, 1x 100 (for Acronis rescue images), plus the raptors for a total of ten. Of the 1.3TB usable, about 700GB is music, 300GB movies and TV, and the remainder is a fluid mix of erotica and unused space.

[ For people interested in having a lot of storage for themselves, at minimum price, I can recommend this, this, and this. Accounts vary, but it seems a quality 400W supply will service 10-16 drives, depending on who knows what. ]

My current case is also an Antec, with the same 5+1+4 bay config as the P180. It fits nine drives but runs pretty hot and has no room to expand.

why you need ECC memory
I was hoping to eliminate or reduce random 'memory could not be "read"' errors from windows, which I always assumed were caused by one-off memory issues.

onboard Geforce 6100
This is ideal.

Get two of the 2nd generation Raptors, they go up to 150 GB now.
I saw that, but at quintuple the $/gig of normal drives, even the 72GBs are an extravagance for me.

Thanks!

I get those all the time, too. It can be a software issue. by Fullofkittens 05/18/2006, 7:07pm PDT NEW
