Interestingly(?), in one app where it happens fairly often, changing the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 from XP stops the errors (and trades them in for other errors).

That memory at 0x00000000 could not be "read" error also can be a precursor to HD failure, but usually I think it has to do with an app assuming that a block of memory is going to be available when it's not because Windows is already using it.
