I've played the first two X games, but no more than a few hours. It's supposed to be fun as Privateer was, but much slower and less fun for the first few hours.
What makes the X series stand out is that you can do the trading thing, and then buy your own space factories and start your space corporation. Once the space bucks roll in you build up your space ship and fight the aliens, in space.
Top it off with pretty new graphics and that's it.
