the part where peoples' clothes start raining out of the sky from hundreds of feet up. Huh? Really efficient way to wipe out a species of 6 billion, one at a time. I was hoping for some area of effect heat wave flesh melting.

Yeah, i figured the clothes came from the just now standing up strider robot that kept finding ways of sneaking up on Tom Cruise. and I just took the ray gun, the huge slow robots and fertilizing with blood for no reason as meaning, "Man, these guys are real assholes aren't they?" But then they broke into Tim Robbins basement and just screwed around for a bit instead of spraypainting walls and shitting in the fridge so i'm not sure anymore.

Minus a hundred points for telling instead of showing. "Hi, I'm new reporter Ms. Exposition. I'm here to fill you in on the plot without showing you any of it. Okay looks like my work is done here, see ya!"

This character is a staple in low budget movies where its still dumb but at least excusable. This was supposed to be the less gay version of ID4. Was robot versus tank action just too awesome? Would that have taken me out of the moment? just show tanks and missles firing over a big cliff to whet the audiences appettite for...some soldiers shooting a bazooka a few times.

What the hell was with the story change having the aliens bury tripods millions of years ago? Nobody ever discovered one of thousands of 200 foot metallic machines buried right underneath city intersections?

I was more interested in why they weren't using their lightning machine to, i dunno, blow the shit out of stuff. Oh, troop transport, well that makes sense. it was like taking a hummer to get to a moped, fucking stupid.

"The Japanese managed to take a few out" Oh really? The mighty Japan defense force? Who knew Spielberg was an otaku. "The beautiful Japanese culture is lightyears ahead of the martians in tentacle technology!"

I guess he was trying to be believable without being offensive. FAILURE. "The arabs kept fucking running into them and exploding until they fell over" is realistic AND amusing.
