Small annoyance for taking one step back from BF:Nam for every three steps foward (no button to highlight all friendlies and flags, no name display for vehicle passengers).
I'm loving the genius of the squad/commander system, and the 5% of players smart enough to figure out how to use them correctly. A fourth of the games I've played had no commander at all.
The commander is a lonely, unappreciated position. I played in one game for 5 minutes until I noticed the slot was empty, so I applied and got accepted. After turning the game around, our team's UAV trailer and artillery get destroyed. I order all squads to repair them, repeadtedly. No one responds. So I respawn as an engineer and grab a humvee to go do it myself. On the way some tard with a score of zero starts bitching that I'm not using the commander abilities and calls for a mutinee. It passes in just ten seconds(!). I get booted with the enemy team down to just 10 tickets (we had 80), so surely overthrowing me and installing a new commander was an immediate necessity. No one applies. The spot stays empty for 3 minutes until the end of the round (you're not allowed to apply for 5 minutes after getting booted). Our team wins 70 to 0, with the x2 commander victory bonus going to...NO ONE. The guy who started the mutiny still had a score of zero.
FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST STOP COUNTING ARTILLERY STRIKES AS TEAMKILLS!!!! You only get a GIANT FUCKING RED ARTILLERY ICON COMPLETE WITH VOICEOVER as warning 15 seconds prior to the bombardment. Anyone stupid enough to remain in the area (or even better, walk into it) and get themselves killed should be worth points to the commander wise enough to euthanize their retarded asses. I guess this reflects commanding officers being responsible for their troops' fuckups, since retarded teams will often end up yielding a negative score to commanders. I swear to god the teamkilling conditions were made by people who have never played an online FPS in their lives.
Engineers need to get more points for repairing. Support/medic get a point for every picked up kit they litter the ground with. Medics get a point for each revive. Asskickers get two points for every kill. Engineers get....one point for every 1.5-2 wrench bars worth of repairs? The only option for engineers to get any decent score is to ride around in flag capturing vehicles, repairing them and getting the flag capture and driver assist kill points.
You'd think on their third time out they'd manage to come up with a decent server browser. Trying to find a ranked server that isn't full, click "not full" filter. 90% of displayed servers are still full. Click on the server with one slot open, turns out that server was actually full. Will the browser update this fact? Nah, fuck it. Try clicking the sort buttons about three times before they actually sort anything. But hey, at least the scroll bar works.
I'm having an absolute blast with the Strike on Kandar(sp?) map, an alright time on a couple others, and yawning over about a third of the maps. It all boils down to Fussbett's law of time investment. Why bother spending 5 minutes slogging through mile long swamps, island hopping, or trying to navigate all the impassible terrain and five hundred different elevation levels of the Kubra Dam map (75% of that map is spent climbing stairs and ladders) when I can just hop into Strike on Kandar's stalingrad level close quarters urban meatgrinder and wrack up a bajillion points every round? Especially if you're going for rank. |
