I think the relative "realism" and tone that I was expecting, maybe because Christopher Nolan was directing, kind of made it difficult to stomach all the cheap one-liners and stupid things like Fox, Morgan Freeman's character, somehow being CEO/chief scientist/master of the parking garage, or the sudden discovery of a huge cave under Wayne Manor that I GUESS you can attribute it to being a comic book movie (read: excuse for gaping plot holes and contrivances). Having Rade Serbedzija play "Bum #5, with Coat" was kind of sad, too.

The other weakness were the action sequences, which were the kind of thing edited together by a guy who equates action with "blurry motion and explosions". Or maybe the editor saved it somehow? Nolan wasn't exactly known for being an action director though, so maybe he's just learning (badly) on the job. Related: the conceit of a villain that induces severe fear in his victims is really cool, but somehow the on-screen depiction was super-not-cool and not-scary. "Hey, burlap sack! I know what I'm using THIS for!" Darren Aronofsky somehow managed to make a fridge creepy and fucked-up in Requiem for a Dream. Wasn't he supposed to direct Batman?
