Although the ninja stereotype has itself been overdone to the point of absurdity, it was the recycled Karate Kid theme that really turned me off. Maybe you're too young or too wise to have suffered through abominations like Remo Williams: The Aventure Begins or American Ninja.
There's a typical gap in quality between an original and its sequel. This movie is no exception.
It's not so much a difference in quality as in tone. The BB script had an earnest, adolescent preachiness that was completely out of character with the original.
