#1: Ang Lee has got this weird method of attempting to translate the comic book aesthetic into a film format. I swear to God - Tank Girl achieved this with greater subtlety. Lee's method is a semi-annoying combination of split-screening and cutting some elements away into new shots. However, you can kind of groove on it after you get used to it. It could be really cool to do some of this shit during the fight scenes. HOWEVER. The only time Lee uses the technique is during the "charged" dramatic conversations... the fight scenes are all normal CGI bullshit.

I'm all for a movie that can make me jump in my seat and go "AAH! Jesus!" but not when it's a reaction to the editing. Why on earth did he keep cutting to a new angle in the middle of someone's sentence?

That's what they do in comics. The characters go on long monologues about what they do and why they do it, (especially when Chris Claremont, that overly autodidactic bastard, does it.) and the panels shift to different angles of the character as they talk. It works better in a graphic novel, cos, since you have to read it, you can basically ignore all the panel shuffling if the writing is good.

In a movie, it's really jarring, since we can only pay attention to one thing at a time.

Haven't seen the Hulk yet, but i thought that cutting in between dialogue was one of the basic no-nos in editing/directing. Or am I wrong? I'd ask INC, but i'm wary of his reply.
