You're not as far off as you'd be comfortable with believing.

Take for instance my intellect: substantial by any measure, flush with resources, with a positively rare gift for absorbing ambient information and transposing it in more human terms. There's no overlooking my qualifications, or my lack thereof. Great expertise can only do so much on its own, especially these days when most of the fun inventions (the raised plane, the toaster) have already been taken. Mine, and to a much greater extent Barbie's, is an armchair intellect. It has no particular rock to move, and no particular impetus to find one, at least as far as this site is concerned.

On the next level of organization is stuff like Carmack's rocket team - a loose association, a couple of geniuses get together with a goal in mind and generally work towards it. Already at this level there will be some rudimentary separations of duties: one guy is doing construction, another one - while helping with construction - primarily designs, etc. Perhaps there is even a guy who is basically good for nothing but getting all the other guys in the same place at the same time.

At the next step up we start talking about small businesses, single offices. There's a guy in charge and the activities of his subordinates are organized with respect to that. There are distinct jobs each member performs. Maybe there's a genius running the place, but what's really important is that the guy running the place can coordinate the jobs of the geniuses who work for him.

And then let's expand way way out and start talking about stuff like NASA: bureaucracies. The purpose of a bureaucracy is to coordinate the efforts of many, many geniuses on a specific, albeit complex or wide-ranging, project: space flight, administration of justice, accumulating enormous profits, etc. In a bureaucracy there are layers of management wrangling layers of specialists and specializations - just think of everything it takes to put a man into outer space and bring him back again. Bureaucracies aren't for doing stuff slowly or quickly, they're for doing things that have either never been done before or need regular farflung doing. Bureaucracies are for large projects, and Caltrops is not, and never will be, in need of one.

Ergo, complaining about the lack of genius-level whatever at Caltrops is like accusing the Carmack team of not putting a man on the moon, you fagort. I can personally supply super-faboo content about fangirls and North Korea, Fussbett can design us a super-faboo site, but our efforts are not organized and our goal is neither clear nor managed. It is all strictly hobby-level. OMM was only a little bit better in this regard - and there was a very strict specialization scheme of content-providers and posters which some might suggest was the ultimate downfall of the site. I find the current political situation of this site not at all obvious, and I do not see a trend in any direction at all provided Barbie is suitably reined-in.

That you can be so pat about it suggests to me either a lack of contemplation or experience, BEEYOTCH.

Also as far as everyone's critique of NASA goes: it is for the stupid, but that's life. My critique of US foreign policy is only tenatively more valid, but I am not shy about making it; your critique of Caltrops is demonstrably insufficient, but that doesn't appear to stop anyone from taking it personally. We are all gay, and that includes you.
