Yeah, waste my time and effort on a game that produces no profit. Really great productive use of my time.</sarcasm> It sounds like a fun project you will learn a lot from, and I'm interested to read more about your progress and discoveries along the way. That ain't makin' me no money, fella. My advice is to try to enjoy the journey and learn some things, rather than fantasizing about monetary rewards that will never ever ever materialize. I've been writing programs probably for longer than you've been alive (34 years). I have lots of other fun things to do than to take the time and effort to work on a project that has no possibility of returning any money for the amount of time I spent on it. I took a program someone else wrote, converted it from Delphi to Free Pascal, then made some modifications and sold it to ICJ as a program to create mazes in an adventure game. I got paid $70 for about 3 hours work, which isn't bad (considering I desperately needed the money at the time),. If I can't even do considerably better on a mass-market application, there is no point going through the agony and effort for no reward at all. But hey that's just my opinion :) Let me ask you, how many programs have you sold or tried to sell? How much experience do you have either as a staff or freelance programmer? How much marketing experience do you have? |
